Beverley praises Warriors’ Steph Curry, insults Chris Paul

Timberwolves guard Patrick Beverley went on a veritable hate tour against Suns guard Chris Paul during ESPN’s morning programming on Monday, and used his respect for Golden State Warriors star Steph Curry to further brew his hatred.

Beverley first appeared on “Get Up!” to say no one is worried about Paul as a player on either side of the ball. Like him really hammered that point at home throughout his allotted time on the network’s first major morning show.

He started with the caveat that he thinks Paul will be a Hall of Famer, but then moved on to his anti-Paul comment.

“Do NBA guys go to bed early the night before they play the Phoenix Suns? Hell no,” Beverley told Stephen A. Smith and Mike Greenberg.

“I go to Steak 44 over there in Phoenix,” he continued. “I’m going to pour myself a nice little wine, probably sweat it out during the pre-game shoot and get ready for Chris Paul.

“Steph Curry? I go to bed at 8 o’clock. [Beverley then knocks on the table] Mom, don’t call me. My daughter, don’t call me. I’m locked up right now. They are two different monsters.

Beverley’s decision to wake up early in the morning to hate another player on national TV shows proof of her disciplined nature, so not only is her stated approach credible, it also has merit. He’s often tasked with defending an opposing team’s top guard — Devin Booker would be the guy in Phoenix now, but Beverley often guarded Paul during his prime.

The Minnesota player didn’t stop at an ESPN morning show. He appeared later on “First Take” to double down on his insults to Paul, and said no one was scared of anyone on the Suns. Apparently, Clippers forward Paul George is included in the anti-Suns camp: Beverley briefly considered not naming him for two seconds, then revealed George’s thoughts as well.

Beverley’s statement comes four days after his last anti-Paul and pro-Warriors comments on ESPN, where he called Golden State a title favorite and said if the team faces Phoenix in the Western Conference Finals , then the Dubs “would run Chris Paul out of that gym.
