Bobby Brown reveals a Catholic priest tried to assault him when he was 10

Grammy winner Bobby Brown has just revealed that a Catholic priest tried to assault him when he was 10, and he believes secret trauma was the reason for his decades of drug abuse / alcohol and trouble with the law.

The 53-year-old R&B singer – who says he hasn’t touched a narcotic in 20 years – was sent to a religious facility by social services after seeing his mother Carole beaten and arrested by police.

“It wasn’t a very nice place for a kid,” Bobby recalls in his upcoming A&E Biography docuseries.

“One of the priests tried to attack me. He tried to touch my private parts… At that time, I was a young boy. I didn’t know what the sexual boundaries were. I just knew that I didn’t like being touched. Some things are hard to forget.

Brown – who was diagnosed with bipolar disorder at the age of 32 – fought back and eventually returned to the Orchard Park projects where he grew up as one of eight children in Boston’s tough Roxbury neighborhood.

“I had it buried so deep in my soul that I didn’t think I’d talk about it again,” the My Prerogative hitmaker told People on Tuesday.

“But talking about it really helped me get over a lot of other things that bothered me, especially that. It really, really bothered me when I was a kid. And as a grown adult, I think that was part of the reason why I did things, other things – drugs, alcohol, why I abused myself. But being able to talk about it and make it known helps a lot.

At 12, Bobby co-founded boyband New Edition in 1981 before going solo with great success in the late 80s and 90s where he pioneered the new jack swing movement.

Brown wants to be a good example for his three children – his son Cassius, almost 13; daughter Bodhi, 6; and daughter Hendrix, 5 – with his manager-turned-second wife Alicia Etheredge-Brown.

“We watch our kids now say, ‘Wow! He was Cassius’ age when he saw this, witnessed this, had to endure this,” the 46-year-old biracial marveled.

“And so, yes, that perspective is interesting as well.”

The Masked Singer Crab’s new docuseries covers his tumultuous 14-year marriage to late R&B great Whitney Houston.

Bobby insists the seven-time Grammy winner – who died aged 48 from an accidental overdose in 2012 – would be alive today if they hadn’t divorced in 2007.

Three years later, Brown and Houston’s daughter Bobbi Kristina died, at age 22, in an eerily similar fashion (unconscious in the bath) following a six-month medically induced coma.

And in 2020, the son of Crank Yankers guest star Bobby Jr. (with ex-girlfriend Kim Ward) was found dead, aged 28, in his Los Angeles apartment after overdosing on alcohol, cocaine and fentanyl.

Bobby said: 'I always see them on the beaches or in the fields. They run away, but they laugh. And they are still together. I hadn't dreamed much of Bobbi Kris before Bobby Jr. died. But all of a sudden - floods of dreams... That's enough for a dad to feel like God has them.
