PEARL JAM canceled tonight’s concert at the Golden 1 Center in Sacramento, California and Friday’s show at the MGM Grand Garden Arena in Las Vegas, Nevada after bassist Jeff Ament tested positive for COVID-19.
Latest concert cancellations come just days after drummer matt cameron contracted COVID-19, leading the other members of PEARL JAM to recruit a new touring guitarist Josh KlinghoferA long time Ament collaborater Richard Stuverua fan snatched from the public, a high school student and an original PEARL JAM drummer David Krusen to sit behind the kit for their shows in Oakland and Fresno.
Earlier today, PEARL JAM released the following statement via social media: “As the band battled in Oakland after drummer matt cameron tested positive for Covid, and Fresno where Ed [Vedder, vocals] and the band pulled through with the help of David Krusen as special guest drummer, they are now due to present the heartbreaking news that this morning bassist Jeff Ament tested positive for Covid.
“This is horrible for everyone involved and we are especially sorry for those who planned to attend these shows.
“Our focus on staying inside the bubble has been constant. We have really done everything we can to stay free from infection.
“Unfortunately, the Sacramento and Las Vegas shows are cancelled. Ticket refunds will be automatically processed through the ticketholders method of purchase. We are truly sorry. Please be careful.”
PEARL JAM will kick off their European tour on June 18 at pinkpop festivals in the Netherlands. The second stage of PEARL JAMThe North American ride will begin on September 1 in Quebec.
On March 9, 2020, PEARL JAM was the first major artist to unplug and postpone their spring 2020 tour dates due to COVID-19 concerns. A few weeks later, the band’s new album, “Gigaton”, was critically acclaimed but to empty theaters. Almost two years later, PEARL JAM finally announced that they would be hitting the road with their 2020 North American tour dates officially rescheduled to May and September 2022.
