‘Bill and Ted’ – Famed Circle K to Screen Film Before Closing – The Hollywood Reporter

A bittersweet moment is brewing at Circle K, made famous for appearing in Bill and Ted’s Excellent Adventure.

The Tempe, Arizona-based market that featured in the cult 1989 comedy will soon close for good. To commemorate its place in movie history, the store’s parking lot is hosting two screenings of the film on Wednesday night.

These sold-out screenings are being hosted by Harkins Theatres, which will show the film on a screen mounted on the building.

“We are honored to celebrate this iconic movie venue and are grateful to the City of Tempe for supporting this ‘excellent’ event,” Harkins Theaters owner Dan Harkins said in a statement. “Cinephiles will be transported through time to discover everything they love Bill and Ted at the iconic Circle K.”

In the time travel movie, Bill (Alex Winter) and Ted (Keanu Reeves) meet Rufus (George Carlin) at Circle K while studying for their daunting history exam. The scene, during which the high school pair also encounter versions of themselves, includes Ted uttering the line, “Strange things are brewing at Circle K.”

the Arizona Republic said the store will close on Thursday and employees will be relocated to other stores.

“The rumors are not untrue,” read a statement from Circle K at the time. “We plan to close our store at 1010 W. Southern Avenue in Tempe. This is a place that has had the most triumphant moments in its more than 30 years of service to the Tempe community.

Farewell screenings should include a video message from Bill himself. More information about the event can be seen here.
