Danny Green applauds Pat Beverley over criticism from Chris Paul

Despite being dropped in the first round of the playoffs, Timberwolves guard Patrick Beverley is having a very productive May.

After a stellar appearance on JJ Redick’s podcast, the veteran pest moved his talents to ESPN’s offices in New York this week to absolutely rely on Chris Paul for his defense and overall play during the Collapse of the second round of the Suns against the Mavericks.

(Beverley also offered some intriguing assessments of Doc Rivers and James Harden, if you’re interested.)

Beverley comparing Paul’s defense to that of a practice cone was a particularly viral moment, and everyone in basketball took notice…including Sixers sniper Danny Green.

Green, known for his defense, had some thoughts for Beverley on the latest Inside the Green Room podcast:

“People target you too, Pat Bev. You don’t play fucking defense there. You don’t stop Luka. It’s time and time again that I see Luka call your a** ‘little man’ and “he’s too small” and rushes at you every chance he gets. When you play Luka, you’re also a cone. How would you like that?

And here’s more from the podcast:

“When you talk about a Hall of Famer, you can criticize, but the disrespect, I think, has been taken a bit far.

“I think [Beverley] just used this platform because he has a problem with Chris, and he used it as a personal vendetta to take out a lot of his anger on set at the time. I thought it was unfair to Chris, and I’m sure a lot of people felt the same way, a lot of guys in the league.

“I don’t mind some guys criticizing players, but you’re a role player – disrespecting a Hall of Famer is too far. Calling someone a cone is disrespectful, bruh. I don’t care. Target and cone are two different words, bro. He said he couldn’t guard. Chris Paul is a… nine-time All-NBA defensive team. Yeah, they targeted him. , but damn, there were times when Pat Bev was also targeted , you kidding me I hope?

“Pat Bev, you don’t stop Luka either. There aren’t many people on the planet who stop Luka.”

It’s hard to argue with what Danny is saying here!

Of course, Paul had a bad run. And if you want to judge him on his history of tough playoff outings, feel free, because that’s a fact. Chris Paul hasn’t proven himself to be the guy who can win you a ring. It’s the truth.

But Beverley definitely went a little overboard in her reviews of CP3. There’s no need to be so slanderous on ESPN of all platforms, the world leader in sports. When you go on a show like Get Up first thing Monday morning, with a Hall of Famer like Paul, you go out of your way to get those hateful takeoffs. It’s not just about giving the occasional opinion; you make an effort.

I get it, and Beverley probably has a successful post-prom career enlightening people and giving honest, no-BS opinions on basketball. It’s great fun!

But being a hater just to be a hater could quickly become stale. We’ll see what else Pat Bev has in his arsenal.
