Amber Heard vs. Johnny Depp: All the Celebrities Who Supported the Aquaman 2 Star During the Trial

The Johnny Depp libel lawsuit against Amber Heard has gripped people around the world.

Heard is being sued by Depp for $50m (£40.1m) for suggesting he abused her in 2018 Washington Post editorial. Although she did not name him, he says her allegations have impacted his ability to work.

Heard filed a countersuit accusing Depp of allegedly orchestrating a “smear campaign” against her and describing her own lawsuit as a continuation of “abuse and harassment”.

Depp’s fans are much louder than Heard’s. As of this writing, nearly 4.3 million people have signed the petition to have Heard removed from Aquaman 2, and celebrities such as Winona Ryder and Javier Bardem have explicitly expressed their support for her. Chris Rock even joked on stage that we should “believe all women, but not Amber Heard” – to considerable backlash.

Although the veteran radio host didn’t specifically voice his support for Heard, he did speak out against Depp. Speaking on his SiriusXM show in late April, he said: “He was like, ‘I’m going to put this on TV because I’m so persuasive and so smart, and I’m such a wonderful guy…I’m going to charming America’s pants at trial.

“No, you won’t. It won’t go well. It’s not going well for you, it’s not going well for her. It’s not going well for anyone. You talk like two children fighting. It’s going really, really badly.

Ellen Barkin

In testimony for the trial recorded in 2019, actor Barkin claimed a “jealous” Depp once threw a bottle of wine into a hotel room when they were dating in the early 1990s.

Jurors also heard Barkin testify that her ex was “controlling” during their brief time together and questioned her about where she was going and what she was doing, telling her “don’t do this, don’t do that.”

“Just a jealous, controlling man,” she said, remembering him asking, “Where are you going? Who are you going with? What did you do last night?”

Barkin testified about one particular moment Depp allegedly got ‘very angry’ and accused her of having sex with someone else because she had a light scratch on her back .

Barkin’s testimony on the bottle incident was previously heard in Depp’s UK libel case with The sun on an article where the newspaper referred to him as a “wife beater” – which the Pirates of the Caribbean lost actor.

Depp denied the incident took place when Barkin’s claim emerged and testified that she called it abusive because she resented him.

“A sexual element started with Ms. Barkin that went on for months on and off really because she was doing the movie that I was doing at the time, Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas“, Depp said.

“She wanted a real relationship with me and I didn’t want that. I didn’t feel the same for her as she did for me and I guess from that point on she got very, very angry and since then I have not spoken to Mrs. Barkin.

Julia Fox

Uncut Gems the Fox star publicly supported Heard. She commented on Instagram: “Did she hit him? Yes. Was it abuse? No. You have to have power to be able to abuse it. She was 25. He was clearly still much more powerful, including physically and financially.
