Depp takes the witness stand and calls Heard’s allegations crazy

FALLS CHURCH, Va. (AP) — Johnny Depp called his ex-wife’s sexual and physical abuse accusations “crazy” on Wednesday as he returned to the witness box in his defamation lawsuit against Amber Heard.

“Ridiculous, humiliating, ridiculous, painful, savage, incredibly brutal, cruel and all wrong,” Depp said when asked about her reaction to hearing Heard’s allegations when she testified earlier in the trial.

Depp was testifying on Wednesday as a rebuttal witness – both he and heard each testified at length earlier in the trial.

He gave specific responses to some of the particular allegations raised by Heard and also his sister, Whitney Henriquez, who provided some of Heard’s strongest testimony..

He concluded his testimony with a definitive denial of the allegations.

“I have never in my life committed sexual assault, physical abuse, all these outlandish, outrageous stories of me doing these things,” he said. “And live with it for six years, and wait until you can get the truth out.”

He said that “no matter what happens, I got here and spoke the truth and talked about what I’ve been carrying on my back, reluctantly, for six years.”

Depp will be cross-examined on Wednesday afternoon.

Depp is suing Heard in Fairfax County Circuit Court over a December 2018 op-ed she wrote in The Washington Post describing herself as “a public figure representing domestic violence.” His lawyers say he was defamed by the article even though he never mentioned his name.

Depp denied ever hitting Heard and said she was the aggressor in the relationship. Heard has testified to more than a dozen separate instances of physical abuse she says she suffered at the hands of Depp.

Depp also disputed a claim by Heard that Depp had nothing to do with getting a role in the superhero blockbuster “Aquaman.” When Heard testified, she was clearly offended by a question from Depp’s lawyers insinuating that Depp got him the part.

Depp, however, said that after auditioning for the role, Heard spoke to the studio on his behalf. He was not allowed to discuss details of his conversations when Heard’s lawyers objected, but said that “in the end, she got the job, so I hope I guess I limited their concerns to some extent”.

Also on Wednesday, model Kate Moss, a former girlfriend of Depp, denied ever being pushed or assaulted by Depp during their relationship.

Moss also testified as a rebuttal witness. Heard, in his testimony, referenced Moss and a rumor that Depp pushed Moss down a flight of stairs when they were out together.

Moss, in testimony provided by video link, said Depp had never assaulted her. She said she once slipped down a flight of stairs after a rainstorm at a Jamaican resort and Depp came to her aid.

She testified for less than 5 minutes and was not cross-examined.

Depp also addressed the accusation in his testimony, saying it happened exactly as Moss said. He said he told the Moss to Heard story years ago and “Ms. Heard took the story and turned it into a very ugly incident, all in her head.

Both sides are expected to present their final witnesses on Thursday, with closing arguments expected on Friday.
