A hurricane proved to be the least of Max and Helen’s worries on New AmsterdamSeason 4 finale.
The episode begins with Helen remarking that she must have under-packed because her suitcase closed too easily. “Well, who said you needed clothes?” Max responds cheekily. He also informs her that the botanical garden is ready for their nuptials.
But then the Category 4 storm that was supposed to hit the Carolinas changes course for New York. Max’s frantic texts to Helen (who’s tagged “My Boo” in her contacts!) asking if her flight has been rerouted go unanswered. And there is no flight record on its tracking app. When the hurricane passes, Max finally receives a message from Helen the next morning: “Today has been…I have no words. I will call you as soon as possible. »
Meanwhile, Reynolds suggests the hospital rooftop as an alternative location for the wedding now that the botanical garden is off limits. Max leaves Helen a voicemail explaining how perfect it is for them since “this place has always been magical to us”. It’s where they met and fell in love, so it’s the right place to start their eternity, he concludes.
As Max is standing in his costume, surrounded by their friends, he receives a call from Helen. She is still in London. “I can’t,” she cries. Shocked and discouraged, Max told his worried friends, “She’s not coming.
Now let’s review where the other docs ended up at the end of the finale.
IGGY/MARTIN | Iggy remembers the night he and Martin first met, when this gorgeous man came up to him. “Why me?” Iggy wonders. Martin says he thought Iggy was cute, but Iggy doesn’t buy it and argues that Martin is attracted to broken birds that need to be saved and that’s what he saw on the other side of the bar . Martin is angry that Iggy’s decision is to always play the victim and he seems to have no intention of changing. So when no one wants to lead the hospital’s emergency response to the storm, Iggy takes on the role of proving he can. Everything Could Go Wrong Does: The hurricane knocks down a window in the intensive care unit, so Iggy takes staff and patients up a stairwell for shelter and they start to pass out from from carbon monoxide poisoning, then a light fixture collapses in a pool of water, trapping them in a hallway. Iggy manages to turn off the backup generator and get everyone to safety.
The next day, Iggy tells her husband that the only thing that held him back during the crisis was Martin’s voice in his head. “I can’t be who I want to be with you,” Iggy said. Martin replies that he should then move out.
LAUREN/LEYLA | After working together to help a victim of sex trafficking, Lauren makes a decision about her and Leyla’s future. Their relationship started with money, and it’s in everything they do, Lauren explains. He defiles everything. So Lauren orders Leyla to take her apartment until she gets her visa, but she can’t live there with her.
FLOYD | The surgeon is on his way to confront his father when the hurricane hits, trapping them and an injured resident in his father’s building. It seems that Floyd’s father followed his medical career. But even after helping his son push back a woman’s rib inside her (!), he rejects Floyd’s demand for answers. However, all hope is not lost: he asks Floyd to call him with recommendations for a shoulder doctor.
