A former Disney executive has said Johnny Depp could be called upon to reprise his role as Captain Jack Sparrow as fans have a “huge appetite” for it to happen.
The former executive, who has not been named, told People he thinks Depp, 58, could return as a rogue swordsman pirate, due to the promise of a huge potential salary for everyone involved.
“I absolutely believe after the verdict that Pirates are ready to restart with Johnny as Captain Jack back on board,” the executive told People. “There are simply too many potential box office treasures for a beloved character deeply embedded in Disney culture.”
The former Disney insider predicted that after the huge success of Paramount Pictures’ “Top Gun: Maverick,” Disney would be looking to bring back its own beloved franchise.

Despite the insider’s confidence that Disney could bring the franchise back, he’s not too sure the actor would be up for it.

Depp testified in court that he had no intention of reprising his role as Sparrow because he felt “guilty until proven guilty” by Disney executives.
During his libel trial with his ex-wife Amber Heard, 36, the actor told the jury he would not work with Disney again after being eliminated from the sixth Pirates film.
His legal team claims Depp lost $22 million in wages after Heard published his Washington Post op-ed in 2018 which did not identify Depp but clearly labeled him a domestic abuser.
Depp said he felt like he was “guilty until proven guilty” with Disney executives.

Depp also had to step back from his role as Grindelwald in the Harry Potter franchise after losing his UK libel case against The Sun, which he sued for calling him a “wife beater”.
“Fantastic Beasts: Dumbledore’s Secrets” would become the franchise’s worst-performing film.
Another insider, who had previously worked on sets for Pirates, told People he didn’t “believe” Depp would pass up the role if offered to him due to “his money issues” and the fact that Pirates is a “billion dollar global player”. franchise.’

Super-producer Jerry Bruckheimer told The Sunday Times in May that the producers were “developing two Pirates scripts” which did not involve Depp.
Bruckheimer said Depp was “not at this stage” cast in the role of Jack Sparrow, but that the “future remains to be decided”.
Actress Margot Robbie, 31, is reportedly being considered for her starring role in the franchise.
The anonymous insider told People that a seventh film will “probably” be released in 2025 and that they believe the producers will “make Robbie [Depp’s] girl and probably have a cameo of him as a test.
Finally, a Hollywood agent told People he thinks Depp’s career will “flourish” despite the messy public trial.
“His fans are very loyal and vocal and everyone knows he’s far from perfect,” the agent told People.

Depp said the jury “gave my life back to me” after winning the blockbuster trial against his ex-wife.

“And six years later, the jury gave me back my life. I am truly humbled,” he wrote in a statement.
Whether or not Jack Sparrow sees the big screen again, rumors have swirled that Depp could be cast in Tim Burton’s sequel to “Bettlejuice.”
Depp, who hasn’t starred in a major film since 2018, now appears in the “Bettlejuice 2” cast list alongside stars Michael Keaton and Winona Ryder, in Google searches for the film.
The film’s IMDB page was also recently updated with a synopsis and a 2025 release date.
In February, Deadline fueled speculation that the film franchise would be revitalized after it announced that Brad Pitt’s production company Plan B would helm the project and said it was in early stages of development at Warner Bros.
