A former Disney executive has said Johnny Depp could be called upon to reprise his role as Captain Jack Sparrow as fans have a “huge appetite” for it to happen.
The former executive, who has not been named, told People he thinks Depp, 58, could return as a rogue swordsman pirate, due to the promise of a huge potential salary for everyone involved.
“I absolutely believe after the verdict that Pirates are ready to restart with Johnny as Captain Jack back on board,” the executive told People. “There are simply too many potential box office treasures for a beloved character deeply embedded in Disney culture.”
The former Disney insider predicted that after the huge success of Paramount Pictures’ “Top Gun: Maverick,” Disney would be looking to bring back its own beloved franchise.

Despite the insider’s confidence that Disney could bring the franchise back, he’s not too sure the actor would be up for it.

Depp, who hasn’t starred in a major film since 2018, now appears in the “Bettlejuice 2” cast list alongside stars Michael Keaton and Winona Ryder, in Google searches for the film.
The film’s IMDB page was also recently updated with a synopsis and a 2025 release date.
In February, Deadline fueled speculation that the film franchise would be revitalized after it announced that Brad Pitt’s production company Plan B would helm the project and said it was in early stages of development at Warner Bros.
