MJF’s homemade bomb is best for business

Ratings and viewership data are available for last night’s episode of AEW (June 1) dynamite.

By Daily Showbuzz, dynamite drew 969,000 viewers for an audience point of 0.40 in the 18-49 demographic. The show finished in 2nd place on the cable demo chart for the night.

Overall viewership was up from last week’s 929,000 viewers, and the demo rating was up significantly from last week’s 0.35. An NHL playoff game was the only thing that beat AEW dynamite on cable last night.

This was the spinoff episode of dynamite Next double or nothing. CM Punk is the new AEW World Champion and a Blood and Guts match has been booked, but the main thing everyone is talking about coming out of dynamite is MJF’s house bomb promo where he shits all over Tony Khan, the fans and the boys in the back.

I highly doubt the endgame here will be an explosive deathmatch between MJF and Khan, so it seems to me that AEW has something long-term planned between MJF and CM Punk. Is MJF’s pipe bomb the start of an angle with the kind of long-term legs that can keep AEW ratings going until the end of the year when they negotiate a new TV deal? It may even be pointless to speculate about it so soon. At the very least, the angle was a ratings hit on its first night.
