‘Deadpool 3’ Screenwriters Provide Update on Working With Disney for New Movie – The Hollywood Reporter

The writers of the next dead Pool sequel are confident that the franchise will remain as irreverent as ever.

Rhett Reese and Paul Wernick, who have writing credits on the first two dead Pool films and work on Dead Pool 3 for director Shawn Levy, said Geek’s Lair that joining the Marvel Cinematic Universe won’t change the overall impression that fans have loved from previous films. The next film will be the first since Disney acquired 20th Century Fox, which released dead Pool (2016) and its 2018 sequel.

“It’s a thrill,” Reese said of the Ryan Reynolds franchise coming into the Marvel fold. “It’s an absolute pleasure to reunite with the band, to have a new backdrop in the MCU with new characters, new villains, that sort of thing. You know, it’s never a marriage that we must have seen it coming — Fox and Disney, it was an outside thing [separate] of our storytelling process. But we absolutely find luck and gold in this situation, or we try to.

Wernick added, “Deadpool is going to be Deadpool,” leading Reese to confirm that fans don’t need to worry about the studio trying to set a more family-friendly tone for the new movie.

“They’ve been very supportive of that,” Reese said. “Now, when it comes to a particular joke, if we cross a line, we might at some point hear, ‘Maybe not that joke.’ But I think they’ve been incredibly supportive of what we’re doing, because obviously we’ve been doing it separately for a long time, and I think they’ve seen success and they’ve had their own even bigger success So hopefully it’ll be a marriage made in heaven, but we definitely have their support, and that’s a good thing to feel.

As to whether the writers have started from scratch or will incorporate aspects of a previous project written by Bob’s Burgers Wendy Molyneux and Lizzie Molyneux-Logelin, Reese said, “We have an answer.” He then continued, “But we’re really not supposed to divulge plot details.”

Reese also joked that the pair of writers, who penned the upcoming Netflix spider head starring Chris Hemsworth, was locked in a “secret vault under an ocean somewhere” to work on the dead Pool script.

The Hollywood Reporter exclusively reported earlier this year that Levy, who previously directed Reynolds in free guy and The Adam Projectwould be at the helm Dead Pool 3 and that Reese and Wernick would return to the franchise. Tim Miller directed the first film, while David Leitch directed Deadpool 2.
