Jennifer Lopez thanked a wide variety of people while accepting the Generation Award at the 2022 MTV Movie & TV Awards on Sunday night.
The ‘Marry Me’ star, who wept as she picked up her golden popcorn trophy, kicked off her speech by showing her appreciation for those who ‘gave me this life’ before pivoting.
“I want to thank the people who gave me joy and the people who broke my heart. Those who were true and those who lied to me,” Lopez said.
“I want to thank true love, and I want to thank the way I lied to myself, because that’s how I knew I had to grow up.”
The ‘Waiting for Tonight’ singer, 52, went on to thank ‘disappointment and failure for teaching me to be strong’ and her 14-year-old twins, Max and Emme, ‘for teaching me to love “.
“I want to thank all the people who told me — face to face or when I wasn’t in the room — that I couldn’t do this,” a tearful Lopez added. “I really don’t think I could have done it without you.” And I know I couldn’t have done it without the fans who saw the movies.
“You are the reason I am here and have been here, and I love you!” she says.
The multi-hyphen concluded her speech with a sweet shoutout to fiancé Ben Affleck, whom she asked to wait for her “for dinner.”
“I’ll be home at 7 a.m.!” she joked.
Lopez’s extensive career, which has seen her release numerous albums as well as stars in films such as “Selena” and “Hustlers,” has been rewarded throughout this year’s awards season.
Just three months ago, Lopez accepted the Icon Award for her musical career at the iHeartRadio Music Awards, where she teased, “I’m just getting started.”
