Jennifer Lopez thanks ‘those who broke my heart’ and ‘those who lied to me’ at MTV Movie & TV Awards

Jennifer Lopez received the Generation Award at the 2022 MTV Movie & TV Awards on Sunday.

Accepting the award, Lopez shared, “You’re only as good as the people you work with and if you’re lucky they make you better. And I was very lucky in that regard. As an actor, I’m none of the women I’ve played, but there’s a part of what’s deeply true to me in each of these characters. really lived, I have a different kind of thank you list that’s you tonight.”

Lopez then not only thanked her friends and family, but she also thanked her haters.

“I want to thank everyone who gave me this life,” Lopez said. “I want to thank the people who gave me joy and those who broke my heart. Those who were true and those who lied to me. I want to thank true love and I want to thank the way I lied to myself because that’s how I knew I had to grow up. I want to thank disappointment and failure for teaching me to be strong, and my children for teaching me to love.

Lopez then began to get emotional, sharing with her detractors, “I want to thank everyone who told me to my face, or when I wasn’t in the room, that I couldn’t do this. I really I don’t think I could have done it without you.”

Haters aside, Lopez also took time in her acceptance speech to thank her longtime manager Benny Medina, who she says “never lets me stop believing in myself.”

“You know when someone’s by your side, you know when they’re there when you’re at your lowest and most desperate point, you’ll never forget them and you’ll never want to let them down. And there were moments so low that I think I went on more for you than me,” Lopez told Medina, who was in the audience.

Finally, Lopez ended her speech by apologizing for getting emotional and sent a special little message to her fiancé, Ben Affleck, and his family back home, as she said, “Ben and everyone Everyone at home, wait until I have dinner. I’ll be at seven o’clock!”
