Top Gun: Maverick earned its second weekend domestic box office win by earning $86 million in ticket sales, which ranked it among the second 10 highest-grossing weekends in the history of the domestic box office.
As reported by Variety, Top Gun: Maverick has now soared to $291 million in North America and has officially become Tom Cruise’s highest-grossing film at the domestic box office. Additionally, the film was down just 32% from its $160 million opening weekend and has now seen, according to Comscore, the “smallest second-weekend drop for a film that opened at $100 million or more.”
For comparison, Spider-Man: No Way Home and Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness were down 67% in their second weekend and The Batman dropped 50%.
Internationally, Top Gun: Maverick crossed $257 million and did its part to help the film reach $548 million worldwide.
Maverick had little competition, but David Cronenberg’s Future Crimes had a limited release and it grossed $1.1 million from 773 theaters nationwide. Maverick, meanwhile, was playing in 4,751 theaters.
Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness took second place with $9.3 million domestically, bringing its worldwide total to $909.4 million worldwide. The Bob’s Burgers Movie again placed third with $4.5 million, The Bad Guys placed fourth with $3.3 million, and Downton Abbey: A New Era rounded out the top five with $3 million. dollars.
