“Tales of the Living Deadputs a new spin on AMC’s hit zombie series, with this latest spin-off series taking an anthology approach to opening up the world of “The Walking Dead.”
AMC today announced that “Tales of the Walking Dead” will premiere on Sunday, August 14. They also shared a handful of new images from the spin-off series, one of which (seen above) features the return of Samantha Morton as the main series villain Alpha!
“Tales of the Walking Dead” will allow for standalone storytelling, which should give the series a very different vibe to the established “Walking Dead” formula that carried over from the main series to the other spinoffs we’ve seen so far. .
Olivia Munn (The predator) will appear in an episode of “Tales of the Walking Dead”.
The cast of the show also includes Daniella Pineda, Terry Crews, Parker Posey, Jillian Bell, Anthony Edwards and Poppy Liu. Directors confirmed for ‘Tales of the Walking Dead’ spin-off include Haifaa al-Mansour (good lord bird), Deborah Kammeier (Star Trek: Picard), Tara Nicole Weyr (The Savages), and Michel Satrazemis (The Walking Dead, Fear the living dead).
“Each hour-long episode is set in the world of ‘The Walking Dead’ and will feature new and existing characters.”
Channing Powell (“The Walking Dead”) will serve as the spin-off’s showrunner.
“This series, more than any other in the Walking Dead Universe, works on new voices, perspectives and ideas – bringing stories to life like we’ve never told before,” said franchise architect Scott Gimple. “I’m thrilled to be Channing’s consigliere, helping in any way I can to bring these new visions to life for the best fans in television. I started out as a fan of ‘The Walking Dead‘ and ended up as showrunner of what will hopefully be one of its most unique spin-offs. I’m so grateful to AMC and Scott for supporting me and my writers as we pushed and pulled and pushed the boundaries of this universe to bring you something new and unexpected, while we hopefully continue- the, to what the main audience loved so much about the flagship. To display.”
This will be the fourth official “The Walking Dead” series, following the main show, “Fear the Walking Dead” and “The Walking Dead: World Beyond.”
A spin-off centered on Daryl Dixon is also in the works, as well as a spin-off series centered on Maggie/Negan called “Isle of the Dead” which will take place in New York.
