Dwayne Johnson Reveals How He Changed Shazam’s DCEU Debut With Just One Phone Call

black adam Star Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson has revealed he changed what would have been Shazam’s first appearance in the DC Extended Universe by making a phone call.

As reported by ComicBook.com, Johnson and black adam Producers Hiram Garcia and Beau Flynn spoke to the press about the upcoming DCEU film, revealing that at some point Shazam and Black Adam’s origin stories were going to be told in one film. “When we all read the script, I immediately thought, ‘We need to separate these two movies. We must honor Shazam! and that origin story and what it is and what it can be for the fans, and then we have to tell our story as well,” Johnson said. “I think in separating them, with the majority of the world not knowing who Black Adam is if you weren’t a serious comic book fan, it was important, I think, to separate them and tell each story respectively. “

According to Flynn, he received a phone call from Johnson “very early in the morning” regarding the future of these two DCEU films. “He called Hiram and me, he just said, ‘Brothers,’ he said, ‘We’re going to do black adam. We are going to tell this story. It’s so big and so important, “and that was it,” Flynn said. “It was really amazing…Dwayne’s instincts are so amazing but he was right. Again, we were deep in it and developing this script with the two of them and there’s a reason why sometimes in our business sometimes you have to keep pushing forward and sometimes the company tells you that. We weren’t really cracking up. It wasn’t really working and that’s when that call came in and everything changed.”
