Voice actor of Josuke, Naofumi revealed a diagnosis of stage IV colon cancer in April
The organizers of the GoFundMe campaign for voice actor Billy Kametz revealed on Saturday that Kametz died on June 9 from colon cancer. He was 35 years old.
Kametz had revealed in late April that he had been diagnosed with stage IV colon cancer. He stated at the time that he was taking a break from voice-over work and that other voice actors would replace him for current and ongoing roles. He also said that at the time he was moving back to Pennsylvania to be with his family.
A GoFundMe campaign launched in his name a few days after his announcement. The campaign said the money raised would go towards travel costs, insurance costs, medical expenses not covered by insurance and daily living necessities. At press time, the campaign has raised US$175,126 of the US$150,000 target. Campaign organizers added that they would close the campaign on June 14, saying any contributions that had not already been used for Kametz’s treatments would go towards his celebration of life and funeral. Kametz’s family will hold a visitation on June 15 and a funeral on June 18.
Kametz’s family said they would also appreciate contributions to the Colon Cancer Coalition honoring Kametz.
Kametz was born on March 22, 1987 in Lancaster, Pennsylvania. His obituary stated that Kametz had dreamed of becoming an actor since he was a child, and he got his break from Disney as a member of the entertainment staff on a Disney cruise line. He then starred as Aladdin in Disneyland’s Musical Spectacular.
