Drake sends fans into a frenzy by announcing surprise release of new album Honestly, Nevermind

Drake delighted his 113 million Instagram fans on Thursday by announcing the release of a new album titled Honestly, Nevermind at midnight.

The rap superstar, 35, has released the cover art for the project, which will be his seventh studio album, following last year’s release of Certified Lover Boy.

“7th studio album ‘HONESTLY, NEVERMIND’ released at midnight,” the Canadian hitmaker captioned the photo, simply stating the name of the new album.

The album is a total surprise, the musician not doing any prior promotion.

The thrilling announcement was liked by nearly 2 million of his followers within the first two hours, including former rap rival Kanye West, 45.

The hip-hop star – who has sold over 37 million albums worldwide – will most likely discuss the new album on tonight’s premiere episode of his SiriusXM radio show Table For One.

The program will air one hour before the album’s release, at 11 p.m. ET on Sound 42.

The new project’s rapidity could be partly due to the fact that the God’s Plan star recently sang a $400 million recording deal earlier this year.

On May 3, Sir Lucian Grainge – head of Universal Music Group – confirmed that Drake had signed a massive “expansive and multi-faceted deal” with the label, as Variety reported.

The deal “encompasses recordings, publishing, merchandise, and visual media projects.”

Drake’s Certified Lover Boy, was released through his own OVO Sound imprint under license from Republic Records (owned by UMG).

The album earned him a nomination for Best Rap Album and Best Rap Performance at the 2022 Grammy Awards.

However, the artist – who has won four Grammys in the past – has pulled out of the awards race.

The chart topper is known for criticizing the Grammys, and in response to a Grammy snob from The Weeknd in 2020, he took to Instagram asking for a new platform.

“I think we should stop letting ourselves be shocked every year by the disconnect between hard-hitting music and these awards and just accept that what was once the highest form of recognition no longer matters to the artists that exist. now and those who will come after.’

He added: “Now is the perfect time for someone to start something new that we can build over time and pass on to generations to come.”
