Ranbir Kapoor “does not enter the temple but pandal”: Ayan Mukerji on the stage of Brahmastra

Director Ayan Mukerji has released a statement clarifying a scene from his upcoming film Brahmastra, where actor Ranbir Kapoor wears shoes as he rings a bell. In the Brahmastra trailer, released on Wednesday, Ranbir was seen running towards a decorated place, outside of which “Dussehra Mahotsav” was written. A chain of bells was also seen hanging above the front door, as he rang one before entering the room. On Sunday, Ayan announced the Brahmastra trailer in ‘4K’ on Instagram and wrote a long note. He also shared a movie poster featuring Ranbir. He captioned the post: “Our trailer in 4K! Please click the link in bio – for a better, sharper, clearer watch. Two things to say today: 1) We’ve had lots of feedback on why we didn’t upload our Trailer in 4K. Better resolution is, of course, the best way to see those images we’ve worked so hard to get! So, although delayed – Here it is! And… Thanks for the feedback that led us to do this.

Ayan also wrote, “2) Some people in our community were upset because of a shot in our trailer – Ranbir’s character wearing shoes as he rings a bell. As the creator of this film (and enthusiast), I humbly wanted to speak about what happened here. In our film, Ranbir does not enter a temple, but a Durga Puja Pandal. My own family has been organizing a similar kind of Durga Puja celebration for…75 years! One, which I have been a part of since my childhood,” he added.

“In my experience, we only take our shoes off on the stage where the Goddess is, not when you enter the Pandal. It is personally important to me to reach out to anyone who may have been upset by this image…because first and foremost Brahmāstra is created as a cinematic experience that respects and celebrates Indian culture, traditions and history. That is at the heart of why I made this film, it is so very important to me that this feeling reaches every Indian who watches Brahmāstra! Alright that’s it! Have a nice sunday in the rainy Mumbai!! #brahmastra,” Ayan wrote as he finished his post.

Brahmastra features Ranbir Kapoor, Alia Bhatt, Amitabh Bachchan, Nagarjuna and Mouni Roy in the lead roles. Ranbir and Alia will be seen together for the first time in a movie. The film is set to hit theaters on September 9, 2022, in 2D and 3D.
