Thor: Love and Thunder hit Hollywood on Thursday for the world premiere of Marvel Studios’ latest film, and the early reactions are in.
Official reviews don’t arrive until July 5, so this is the first look at what audiences are saying. It should be noted that the reactions of the premieres are generally more enthusiastic than those of the critics’ screenings.
The project brings together Thor: Ragnarok filmmaker Taika Waititi with star Chris Hemsworth for a tale that pits Thor against Gorr the Butcher God, a villain played by Christian Bale who is bent on eliminating the gods of the galaxy. Natalie Portman’s Jane Foster returns to the franchise for the first time since Thor: The Dark World (2013) and this time will use the power of Thor. The film also stars Tessa Thompson as Valkyrie and the cast of the guardians of the galaxy franchise, including Chris Pratt and Dave Bautista.
love and thunder comes as the Marvel brand has expanded into streaming with Disney+, with several series landing this year, including the current broadcast Ms. Marvel. On the big screen, the studio released Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness less than two months ago, with the project behind Top Gun: Maverick as the second highest-grossing film of the year so far. The workshop also has Black Panther: Wakanda Forever is set to hit the big screen later this year.
love and thunder hits theaters on July 7.

Another classic Thor adventure! #ThorLoveAndThunder is everything I wanted it to be. Big, colorful and eerie battles fueled by Guns N’ Roses with a hopelessly romantic story about finding love in unexpected places. Christian Bale and Russell Crowe are particularly great. And Korg! pic.twitter.com/fu0gTUuMRj

I saw #ThorLoveAndThunder. It may not quite match the visual or comedic bombshell of Ragnarok, but Taika Waititi makes up for it with an emotionally mature Marvel film. It’s also very funny (Natalie has some jokes) and features one of the most stunning visual sequences in MCU history.

#ThorLoveAndThunder improves when he’s not desperately trying to regain Ragnarok’s magic. Most of the humor doesn’t land quite as well as the first time around, but Chris Hemsworth, Natalie Portman and Christian Bale do their best.

THOR: LOVE AND THUNDER is a great rock moment with electrifying action, lots of laughs (screaming goats!) and a deep story about absent gods and our longing for love. Natalie Portman makes a comeback and Christian Bale kills it off as the terrifying Gorr. Best Thor movie yet! pic.twitter.com/s42SkqxlJj

#ThorLoveAndThunder is the biggest movie Marvel has made so far! I am not joking. I haven’t laughed this hard since Ragnarok, and I feel invested in Marvel again in a way I haven’t since Endgame. Bring some tissues, too. The journey is *chefs kiss* from start to finish!❤️ pic.twitter.com/bJYVxCJoQS

#ThorLoveAndThunder exceeds all expectations by balancing absolutely explosive madness with moving character-driven stories. Christian Bale is on top and Natalie Portman is truly exceptional. Waititi may have just delivered the best MCU Phase 4 movie #ThorLoveAndThunder pic.twitter.com/HDePEKKS8P

Thor: Love and Thunder is a fun, tight, and largely self-contained Marvel adventure. If that’s not as much of a surprise as Ragnarok, it’s further proof that Taika Waititi knows how to blast Thor. Mix heart / humor again to have a real good time. #ThorLoveAndThunder pic.twitter.com/Bkxn5HJFQe

You can’t be that breath of fresh air twice, though, so you need to build the emotional connection to the characters and the plot. Watch the Guardians movies. #ThorLoveAndThunder tries but can’t quite hit it, and comes across as oddly restrained, which is a shame. pic.twitter.com/KhE13qEc7x

damn it. #ThorLoveandThunder is the perfect blend of taika at its best with comedy and a gut punch all rolled into one. I left this movie emotionally satisfied while sobbing and just perfection. we stan a dad rock soundtrack. in the words of my new favorite characters: AHH pic.twitter.com/MytduVq89h

If, like me, you enjoy watching Christian Bale gobble up the scenery while gobbling up that black ink that Danny DeVito had in Batman Returns, then #ThorLoveAndThunder is for you.

#ThorLoveAndThunder is a lively, vibrant explosion that delivers. Hemsworth’s Thor remains a jewel in Marvel’s crown. Bale’s Gorr is a killer boogeyman that mixes campy and scary. Portman’s Foster and Thompson’s Valkyrie make a top pairing. Crowe’s Zeus is *chief’s kiss* pic.twitter.com/PDb5SZRWOo

Wow!! #ThorLoveandThunder that’s great ! The best entry in Phase 4 behind Shang-Chi and No Way Home. I laughed. I cried. Then I laughed and cried some more, in that order. Natalie Portman FINALLY has her due. Dr. Jane Foster is more than worthy of being the Mighty Thor.⚡️ pic.twitter.com/oOop89P1uf

#ThorLoveAndThunder has an appetite for destruction and laughs. It’s totally awesome! Taika Waititi delivers a subversive and irreverent show. Great story, stakes and character building. Chris Hemsworth & Natalie Portman look stunning. Russell Crowe & Christian Bale slip into the world with ease pic.twitter.com/W7PUUXIfM5

#ThorLoveAndThunder is the funniest movie in the MCU. The jokes are excellent, as is the cast that delivers them.
Christian Bale, obviously, is as terrifying as #gorr

#ThorLoveAndThunder is predictably hilarious yet surprisingly personal and heartfelt. Performances by Christian Bale and Natalie Portman really shine as Waititi delivers a moving story. I think this might be my favorite Thor movie. pic.twitter.com/i7BpmQHvQ1

#ThorLoveAndThunder is everything great about comic book movies! Truly hilarious madness, heartbreaking tragedy and explosive action! Visually stunning and one of the best MCU soundtracks. The entire cast is fantastic, but Christian Bale and Natalie Portman are phenomenal! pic.twitter.com/dVkpf54fmP

#ThorLoveAndThunder is a solid take on the Mighty Thor comics – it’s great to see Natalie wielding the hammer and all that. Christian Bale is a top MCU villain and Chris/Tessa are awesome as always. Another Taika victory with humor, heart and an unmissable credits. pic.twitter.com/BGkXgCEyV9

#ThorLoveAndThunder is absolutely AMAZING. It blows every other Marvel movie out of the water and doubles the charm of Ragnarok. A classic @TaikaWaititi attached, so many laughs and tears, with a moving narrative and beautiful visuals. And those publishing credits? OH MY GOD. pic.twitter.com/41iuRXPf0O

Thor: Love and Thunder is so Taika Waititi! It’s wild, hilarious, action-packed, and even dark. Christian Bale is phenomenal as Gorr and Tessa Thompson crush him! Get ready to love these goats! Not enough Guardians (I’m biased on that). Average credit is FIRE! #ThorLoveAndThunder pic.twitter.com/JaRDUkAEcT

#ThorLoveAndThunder is a bright spot in a wobbly Phase 4 as Ragnarok redux, down to its goofy lark humor and undercooked A-list star as the villain. Indifferent to cameos and fan service, it feels like a tonic. Much better/funnier than the sum of its unimpressive marketing. pic.twitter.com/hwTLk8Chhs

#ThorLoveAndThunder just established itself as one of my favorite MCU movies. Overflowing with so much heart, emotion and sincerity, I cried, I smiled from ear to ear. This film is a warm hug and a call to cherish the present, live in the moment, and do something that matters. I love that movie ! pic.twitter.com/FYnwC2Gyqv

#ThorLoveAndThunder is electrifying! Chris Hemsworth is awesome as usual, Natalie Portman has Time to Shine and Russell Crowe as Zeus is hilarious. Stormbreaker needs its own movie! pic.twitter.com/8T3YepCUIg

I really appreciated #ThorLoveAndThunder ! One of Marvel’s funniest movies and surprisingly also one of its most heartfelt. Christian Bale stole the show from me as Gorr the Butcher God. Taika Waititi has to direct all of the Thor movies now. pic.twitter.com/6rUxRxNQtD
— Geeky misfit (@JalenJColeman) June 24, 2022
#ThorLoveAndThunder has very high highs and very low lows. It’s very Taika Waititi and it’s tonally everywhere. That said, the second half is much better than the first and I absolutely loved what Christian Bale brought to the table. Plus, Natalie Portman is fantastic as expected. pic.twitter.com/NCCsDS7bj2

What a race! Thor: Love & Thunder is pure entertainment. It’s funny, moving, there are moments of horror. Christian Bale is perfectly terrifying as Gorr. Natalie Portman is fantastic as Mighty Thor. Chris Hemsworth is perfect. And goats are GOATS. #thor #ThorLoveAndThunder pic.twitter.com/u9QhIPh0G9

I LOVED #THORLOVEANDTHUNDER!!! It was hysterical and breathtaking and full of so much heart! I’m so happy to tell you how awesome it was! Also, goats are my favorite characters! The movie was pure bliss! pic.twitter.com/Z4X1oB9agD

#TaikaWaititi did not disappoint. I had so much fun watching #ThorLoveAndThunder tonight. I brought my mini mjolnir with me. My stormbreaker must be jealous 😌 I love seeing creatures and gods but this is a love story at heart. The two goats are my favorite. They made me laugh so much! pic.twitter.com/wURmGmfhra
